The growing flexibility gap
Presenteeism has spread online in the digital age;Workers are now almost always available via email, Zoom, and messaging platforms instead of working late at night in the office.
But the pandemic’s rise in remote work seems to have widened the trust gap between managers, who can set their own work schedules, and junior employees, who often have to show that they are available all the time.
According to associate professor Helen Hughes of Leeds University Business School in the United Kingdom, younger workers who work from home may now face even greater pressure to demonstrate that they are employed.
