Managers have been left scrambling to find new ways to interact with their teams as a result of the shift toward remote work, including how to evaluate good performance when they are unable to physically observe the work in progress.

According to De Stobbeleir, there is a learning curve involved. Despite the fact that the effects of micromanagement can be detrimental to employees, managers may also be struggling and coping the best they can at the moment.

De Stobbeleir believes that helicopter bosses will likely settle down as they learn how to build more trust with off-site employees as remote and hybrid work become more common.
