Urban water
Some experts are focusing on creating or rediscovering watery areas within urban environments in an effort to increase access to blue health.Nearly 2.4 billion people, or about 40% of the world’s population, live within 62 miles (100 km) of the ocean.
Even more people live on the banks of lakes or rivers. However, people may be prevented from enjoying the benefits of blue spaces by obstacles such as pollution or accessibility.
In order to gather evidence regarding the health benefits of blue infrastructure in urban areas, a European research initiative known as Blue Health was established in 2016.
