A study done for the children’s commissioner for England found that children as young as nine are exposed to online pornography. It suggests that while still in primary school, a quarter of 16- to 21-year-olds first encountered pornography online.
By the time he was 13, half of them had been exposed to it.Young people’s low self-esteem and negative views of sex and relationships have been linked to the findings. It was described as “deeply concerning” by Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza.38% of 16- to 21-year-olds in a nationally representative survey had accidentally discovered pornographic content.
Eight-year-old Joanne Schneider’s son entered slurs he had heard at school into a search engine and found a pornographic website.
