Andrej Karpathy, Former Senior Director of AI, Tesla

Andrej Karpathy is interested in training deep neural nets on large datasets because he is passionate about AI.

He was Tesla’s former Senior Director of AI and was in charge of the computer vision team for Tesla Autopilot. This team focuses on in-house data labeling, training neural networks, and deploying them in production on inference chips that are custom-made.

Karpathy worked as a research scientist before founding OpenAI.Additionally, for his PhD, he investigated the intersection of convolutional and recurrent neural networks and their applications in computer vision and natural language processing.
