Rapid adoption of SaaS solutions attracts attackers

According to Del Heppenstall, a Cyber Security Partner at KPMG UK, attacks on cloud infrastructure are on the rise, as is the utilization of compromised cloud environments as a means of enabling cyberattacks against individuals and businesses worldwide.

He says that the pandemic and the subsequent rise in remote work has accelerated cloud adoption and opened up new attack vectors for businesses used to protecting a clearly defined perimeter. The lack of securely implemented API service integrations and the increased focus of attackers on compromising cloud configuration errors are two trends that KPMG are observing.

According to Heppenstall, this is partly due to the rapid adoption of SaaS solutions during the pandemic, but also to a lack of focus on safeguarding this crucial attack vector.
