A small, modular, efficient fusion plant
Many fusion scientists have grown weary of hearing this old joke:Nuclear fusion power plants that work are only 30 years away, and they always will be.
However, the joke may no longer be accurate at this point:Researchers at MIT have been able to come up with a new design for a practical compact tokamak fusion reactor thanks to advancements in magnet technology.
They say this design could be built in as little as a decade. It’s possible that the time of practical fusion power, which could provide a source of energy that is nearly inexhaustible, is nearing.
