Tunable physics

Researchers have tested various graphene and other material configurations over the past two years to see if twisting them at specific angles would produce unusual physical behavior.

The group led by Jarillo-Herrero was interested in determining whether the fascinating physics of magic-angle graphene would hold up if the structure were expanded to offset not two but four graphene layers.

A great deal of information has been revealed about the properties of graphene since it was discovered nearly 15 years ago, not only as a single sheet but also stacked and aligned in multiple layers, similar to graphite or pencil lead.
