A magic angle
Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in hexagons resembling a honeycomb structure, serves as the foundation for the new “magic” material.
Due to its distinctive properties, interest in graphene has skyrocketed since its first definitive isolation in 2004.It is stronger than diamond, transparent, and flexible, for instance. It also easily transfers electricity and heat.
The Jarillo-Herrero team made a shocking discovery in 2018 that involved two layers of graphene, one on top of the other. However, these layers weren’t exactly stacked on top of each other;Instead, a “magic angle” of 1.1 degrees caused a slight rotation.
