Measuring cartilage changes

Kayla Robinson concentrated on the effects of high and low glucose concentrations on cartilage.Under the direction of Alan Grodzinsky, a professor of biological, mechanical, and electrical engineering and the director of MIT’s Center for Biomedical Engineering, Robinson carried out one experiment for eight days and another for 22 days.

We have four conditions over the course of the eight days: high glucose, low glucose, high glucose with IL 1 (interleukin-1beta protein), and low glucose with IL 1.

Concentrating on changes in ligament from the knee joint of cows, Robinson estimated the arrival of glycoaminoglycan (GAG), a sugar-like particle, let out of the (IL-1) protein.
