Tomás Palacios named new director of the Microsystems Technology Laboratories

The director of MIT’s Microsystems Technology Laboratories (MTL) has changed.Maria Zuber, vice president of research and E.A. Griswold Professor of Geophysics, and Anantha Chandrakasan, dean of the School of Engineering and Vannevar Bush Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), announced recently that Tomás Palacios will take over as director of MTL on December 1.

The 6-A MEng Thesis Program was overseen by Palacios;director of industry;and a professor in the Department of EECS of electrical engineering.He takes over for Professor Hae-Seung (Harry) Lee, who has been the director of MTL since 2019. He is from Advanced Television and Signal Processing (ATSP).

In an email to the community of the lab, Palacios stated, “MTL is a very unique place.”The research being conducted here is unparalleled, and MTL’s dedication to the creation of cutting-edge technologies across the entire stack—from materials to devices, circuits, and systems—is an inspiration to all.To see how MTL technologies are being used in applications all around us, all we need to do is browse the internet, make a phone call, or charge our electric car.
